Cross-reference article identifiers

Given a PMID, if you want to find whether or not the full text appears in PMC, you can use E-Link as follows. If the article appears in PMC, then the (numerical) PMCID will be returned in the result:

https://eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/eutils/elink.fcgi?dbfrom=pubmed&linkname=pubmed_pmc&id=20466091

You can also use the ID converter API, which provides addtional information (such as DOI and manuscript identifier, when they exist) as follows:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/utils/idconv/v1.0/?ids=20466091&format=json

Note that XML and CSV formats are also available.

Conversely, to find the PMID, given a PMCID, you could use E-Link with "pmc_pubmed":

https://eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/eutils/elink.fcgi?dbfrom=pubmed&linkname=pmc_pubmed&id=2869000

Or, you could use the ID Converter:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/utils/idconv/v1.0/?ids=PMC2869000&format=json

You could also use the ID converter to find the PMID and PMCID for an article, given its DOI:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/utils/idconv/v1.0/?ids=10.1016/j.ajhg.2010.04.006&format=json
